The Sun is a star 150 mi llion kilometers fro m Earth. Despite this immense
distance, solar energy has a huge effect on our lives. Without the sun, life
isn't possible!
The Sun emits so much energy because it's a giant nuclear reactor. It is so hot
on the inside that the atoms, the building blocks of all matter, fuse together.
This radiate s an enormous amount of ener gy out into space. A small par t of
that radiation hi ts Earth's sur face. We call it sunshine.
