Flipping the image

HERE’S HOW

. Starting with the setup from Experiment ,

replace the +R Convex lens with the

+R Convex lens. Also replace the two

+R Convex lenses with a -R Concave

lens and an empty lens frame.

. Position the lenses  mm apart and

repeat the observation from the previous

experiments, slowly moving the eyepiece

lens back and forth until you see a clear

image.

WHAT’S HAPPENING

The image is right-side up! The concave lens works with the convex

lens to make an upright image appear. However, you will also notice

that the image is smaller (not as magniﬁed) and also blurrier,

especially around the edges of the visual ﬁeld, than it was previously.

Telescopes using a combination of concave and convex lenses like

this are therefore beer suited for viewing objects on the surface of

Earth, rather than in space. Spoing scopes and ﬁeld telescopes

often use lenses in this way.

小技巧：

1. 右手拿40R凹鏡，貼近眼睛前面。

2. 左手拿300R凸鏡，手臂彎曲，貼近鏡筒前面。

3. 左手慢慢地往前移動，就可以看到清楚的影像。
