Density is a property identified in
relation to water. A unit of water about
the size of a sugar cube weighs 1 gram.
The same-sized quantity of pyrite
weighs 5 grams, so it has a density of 5.
The other minerals are somewhere
between the two, around 2.5 to 3.
Aha!
The greater the
density of a
mineral, the
heavier it is.
Take the pyrite rock in one hand and
select another rock of about equal size
from the kit box. Hold it in your other
hand and compare their weights.
