Beads in the sunshine
You probably know that sunlight tans skin. But
it can bring out other colors as well.
YOU WILL NEED
› Beads
› Petri dish
HERE’S HOW
1. Place a few of the white beads in the lid of the
Petri dish and take the lid out into the
sunshine. Watch what happens.
2. Now cover the beads and wait a few minutes.

WHAT’S HAPPENING
The beads contain a certain colorless
substance that only becomes colorful when
it comes into contact with a component of
sunlight. When you shield it from the light,
it turns pale again. You can perform this
experiment many times over and over.
