Turn blue
into red
YOU WILL NEED
→ 3 test tubes
→ stopper
→ pipette
→ litmus solution
→ cup of white vinegar
→ cup of water
HERE’S HOW
1. Fill a test tube with 7 cm of water and
use the pipette to add 7 drops of litmus
solution. Close the test tube with the
stopper and shake.
2. Divide the solution among three test
tubes. You will need one now, and the
other two for the next experiment. Use
the pipette to add 1 drop of vinegar to
one of the test tubes. Shake it a little.
What do you see?
Note:
Litmus is made of a mixture of
materials. It only has a limited
shelf life. The dry powder should
have an earthy smell. You should
be able to make three partial
portions of litmus solution with
the quantity of powder included
here.
The acid in the vinegar brings
about a color change. The blue
litmus solution turns light red.
