OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Make sure there is no compre ssed air left
in the tank when you are fin ished playing.
Air is not nothing! Th at’s why a supposedly empt y glass is not empty at
all, it’s full of air. It’s the same w ith the air tank of your car. Ever y time
you push the pump in, y ou add more air to the tank, an d the pressure in
the tank increas es. You could even measure t his using a very sensi tive
scale. Your car is a tiny b it heavier after you pum p more air into it. Or as
physicists w ould say: air has mass, s o pumping air into the car
increases it s mass. Without this , the car wouldn’t go anyw here.

What you have bui lt here is a real piston
engine. The comp ressed air from your t ank
pushes the pisto n downwards. It s
movement dri ves the wheels. Th e same
thing happens in c ars with combustion
engines. The o nly difference is that the
pressure is ge nerated by the combusti on —
burning — of fuel in a g as-powered engine.
The concept of air- powered cars is as ol d
as that of convention al cars. Even though
the technology h as never really caught on ,
research is st ill being carried ou t on it
today. New automobi le models with
compressed a ir drives are const antly being
developed, an d the technology has act ually
been used in tra ins.
