Chapter 7: Troubleshooting and Support

7.3 Troubleshooting Procedures

Use the following procedures to troubleshoot your system. If you have followed all of the

procedures below and still need assistance, refer to the Technical Support Procedures or

Returning Merchandise for Service section(s) in this chapter. Power down the system before

changing any non hot-swap hardware components.

No Power

1. As you try to power up the system, note any beep codes. The AMI BIOS supplies additional

checkpoint codes, which are documented online at http://www.supermicro.com/support/

manuals/ ("AMI BIOS POST Codes User's Guide").

2. Make sure that the power connector is connected to your power supply.

3. Make sure that no short circuits exist between the motherboard and chassis.

4. Disconnect all cables from the motherboard, including those for the keyboard and mouse.

5. Remove all add-on cards.

6. Install a CPU, a heatsink, connect the internal speaker (if applicable), and the power LED

to the motherboard. Make sure that the heatsink is fully seated.

7. Verify that all jumpers are set to their default positions.

8. Check that the power supplies’ input voltage operate at 100-120VAC or 180-240VAC.

9. Turn the power switch on and o󰀨 to test the system

No Video

1. If the power is on but you have no video, remove all the add-on cards and cables.

2. As you try to power up the system, note any beep codes. Refer to the next section for

details on beep codes.
