2.2 Programming environment

The PxCeAPI is sample code for the Windows operating system that can be compiled with

Microsoft

Visual Studio

2019 compiler. Visual Studio 2019 can be used to open the solu-

tion and re-compile the sample code.

The PxCeAPI sample code for Linux can be compiled with the GNU g++ compiler. GNU++

can be used to open the solution and re-compile the sample code A Makefile is provided

with the sample code.

2.2.1 API file package contents

The PxCeAPI.zip file includes the following:

– Apps folder: Contains executable files of each of the demo applications.

– Driver folder: Contains driver files and a digital signature file.

– LIB folder: Contains library files (*.dll).

– SampleCode folder: Contains high-level language sample code for each of the de-

scribed functionalities.

2.2.2 Installation

Installation must be performed as an administrator.

Windows

To use the PxCeAPI with the Windows operating system, the PxCeAPI driver (Px-

CeAPI.sys) must be installed on the system. If the device was ordered with an operating

system from Phoenix Contact, the driver was factory installed. If the operating system was

not supplied by Phoenix Contact, the driver can be downloaded from phoenixcontact.com

1. From the download section for your specific product, download the VL3 IPC_PX-

CeAPI_(vX).zip file (where X indicates the version number).

2. Unzip the file to a location on the local system.

3. Run the Install_PxCeAPI_Driver.cmd file.

To uninstall the driver, run the uninstall_PxCeAPI_Driver.cmd file.

Linux

1. The first time the drivers run

sudo bash ./ FirstInstall.sh

to setup the compiler and libraries.

2. The first time you want to setup the DKMS for the driver type

sudo bash ./SetupDKMS.sh

3. To build the demo applications change directory to “SampleCode” and run

sudo bash ./BuildDemoApps
