1.3 General safety notes
• Installation, operation, and maintenance may only be carried out by qualified electricians.
Follow the installation instructions as described.
• When installing and operating the device, observe the applicable regulations and safety
directives (including national safety directives), as well as the generally recognized
technical regulations.
• Observe the safety information, conditions, and limits of use specified in the product
documentation. Comply with them.
• The devices are only to be used as described here. Phoenix Contact accepts no liability
if used for anything other than the intended purpose. Any use other than the intended
use may lead to malfunction or irreversible damage of the devices.
• The termination area must be covered after installation to ensure sufficient protection
against accidental contact with live parts (e.g., installation in a distributor box or control
cabinet).
• In a photovoltaic system, the inverter’s method of operation may generate AC voltage com-
ponents and transients on the DC side. This may lead to inductive interference of cables
and devices in the proximity of the generator’s DC cabling.
• In the case of UL applications, observe the wiring methods of the National Electric
Codes, ANSI/NFPA 70.
• If the device is not used as described in the documentation, the intended protection
may be impaired.
• The devices described in this document are for use in manufacturing industry environ-
ments. They are not designed for use in private environments. They are class A devic-
es. These devices are class A items of equipment (EN 61000-6-4).
• When using the equipment in residential areas, it may cause radio interference. In this
case, the operator is obligated to implement appropriate measures.
• The installer of the system is responsible for the safety of the system in which the device
is installed.

NOTE: Electrostatic discharge
The devices contain components that can be damaged or destroyed by electrostatic
discharge. When handling the device, observe the necessary safety precautions
against electrostatic discharge (ESD) in accordance with EN 61340-5-1 and
EN 61340-5-1.
NOTE: Degree of protection
The IP20 degree of protection (IEC 60529/EN 60529) of the devices is intended for use in
a clean and dry environment. Install the module in a housing with at least IP54 degree of
protection in accordance with EN 60529. The stated limits concerning mechanical or ther-
mal loads on the modules must not be exceeded.
WARNING: Risk of fatal electric shock
Do not install the voltage measuring device while the system is in operation. High volt-
ages may be present in parts of the system even in diffuse daylight. Observe all stat-
utory requirements for working on live parts.
