10.5.9 PTC/AI, thermal contact, and thermistor relay

The CONTACTRON Speed Starter has an input for analog signals (0 V ... 10 V,

4 mA ... 20 mA) so that the speed can be controlled variably within the parameterized

range. This range allows the parameterization of both a minimum value and a maximum

value. Standard potentiometers can also be connected in accordance with the connection

scheme 10-7. A PTC thermistor on the motor can only be connected to the

CONTACTRON Speed Starter via a thermistor relay, for example. This is especially

recommended when the device controls the motor with low frequencies. The motor will

heat up more quickly because the speed is slower and the air flow is smaller. Connect the

output signal of the thermistor relay to the CONTACTRON Speed Starter via the 10V OUT

and PTC/AI input terminals. A thermal contact can be connected directly when taking into

account the required insulation characteristics.

NOTE:

The CONTACTRON Speed Starter is designed in accordance with the

IEC/EN 61800-5-1 standard. This means that reinforced insulation between the

power circuit and the lower voltage range is needed. To avoid weakening the entire

insulation concept of the application, a thermal contact, installed in the motor and

connected directly to the CONTACTRON Speed Starter, requires reinforced insula-

tion.
