4) In a cold climate, it is
advisable to install an
additional check valve to
minimize cold air return,
as well as a nonmetallic
thermal barrier to
minimize heat transfer
by conduction to the
outside. The valve must
be installed on the side
of the thermal barrier
where the air is cold.
The thermal barrier must
also be installed as close
as possible to the point
where the duct enters
the heated part of the
building.
