5.9 – Frost protection
In the “Preliminary settings” chapter, line A04 shows
the programming of the antifreeze protection, whe-
re it is required to set a safety environmental tem-
perature level, below which the boiler is activated
even in the condition of the chronothermostat off.
This protection prevents the water from freezing in
the radiators in extremely harsh climatic conditions,
with consequent volume expansion, which seriously
damages the pipes and other devices installed in the
system, causing serious discomfort: below the tem-
perature set with the preliminary function A04, the
chronothermostat gives the boiler a start command,
which remains as long as the ambient temperature
does not increase by more than the set level. With
the chronothermostat on, since it is not possible to
set a minimum temperature below 1 ° C, it is assu-
med that the system freezing is virtually impossible.
The antifreeze protection is automatic, that is, it in-
tervenes without the operator having to carry out
any other operations other than programming the
preliminary function A04 described above, provided
that during this operation the value “- -” has not been
