During transmission, reception is inhibited. It is advisable not to exceed one
minute of consecutive transmission as the device could overheat and the
battery life could be signicantly reduced.
5.6 – Squelch and Monitor function
The device is specically designed to silence background noise typical of FM
mode transmission, which can be irritating when no communication is
taking place. The background noise silencing circuit (squelch) may cause
very weak signals to be partially received or diicult to understand. This can
happen if the signals are transmitted from a considerable distance or are
emitted by low-powered equipment.
To make these communications audible, the background noise silencing
function can be disabled, allowing the device to receive all possible signals
on the selected channel. Holding the button [E] pressed, the Monitor
function is activated; the silencing circuit is disabled, allowing full reception
on the channel. Once the weak communications have been received,
releasing the button [E] re-enables the silencing circuit. For the entire time
the circuit is excluded, the LED at the top of the device will be lit blue.
5.7 – Torch function
There is another high-brightness white-coloured LED at the top of the device
with a portable lighting function. The device can therefore also be used like
a common electric torch. To activate the torch, press button [F] for two
seconds, as shown in the gure in chapter 3. To deactivate the torch, repeat
the same procedure. Torch power-on and power-o is indicated by the
emission of respectively one and two audible signals.
Bear in mind that activating the torch could considerably reduce the battery
life. Therefore, it is important to consider the remaining battery life indicated
on the display via the icon, before activating the torch.
