In condition monitoring, the characteristic value is used for the evaluation of the bearing condition. The
high-frequency acceleration signals with a short pulse duration of a bearing damage generate higher
peak values in relation to the effective value. This ratio can be read in the crest factor and can serve
as an early warning system for incipient bearing damage.
The measuring axis for the acceleration indicators and the magnitude (combination of several axes)
can be freely configured.
The Crest factor decreases with advanced bearing damage and should always be used in
combination with another characteristic value (e.g. the a-RMS or BearingScout ™).
9.6 Surface temperature
An increased surface temperature occurs with rotating parts due to friction. This characteristic value
can also be an indication of electrical problems in the drive unit. A temperature rise is the measure of
energy loss and increased wear.
9.7 Unbalance analysis
The device can measure the vibration energy due to increased unbalance on a rotating component
frequency-selectively. Compared to the broadband wear indicator (fatigue - v-RMS), unbalance
problems can be monitored very reliably and with little influence from other process vibrations.
u Write the required speed information of the machine to be monitored to the device via the machine
control system using RPDO dynamic (index 0x1400) or as SDO (index 0x2020).
u Configure the relevant measuring axis for the unbalance measurement (x, y or z) via the SDO
(index 0x2053).

The unbalance value is updated in the device every 3 ms.
The measurement axis for the unbalance measurement should be in the direction of the main
vibration, in most cases this is radial to the shaft axis.
The speed of the rotating component must be at least 120 rpm.
