9.4 EtherNet/IP
9.4.1 Note: Startup package
ifm electronic provides Startup Packages for the integration of the device in EtherNet/IP environments
with controllers from different manufacturers.
The Startup Packages can be downloaded from the ifm website: documentation.ifm.com
9.4.2 Integrating the device into a project
The device supports the following EtherNet/IP configuration methods:
Top Down Mode
Configuration of the device via the Configuration Assemby Object
When the connection is established, the configuration created is transferred from the EtherNet/
IP controller to the device where it is saved and activated
Independent Mode
Configuration of the device via parameter setting software / ifm IoT Core
The Configuration Assembly Object in the EtherNet/IP project will not be evaluated
9.4.2.1 Top-Down mode
In “Top-Down” configuration mode, the device parameters are set in the EtherNet/IP projection
software. The created configuration is transferred to the device and activated when the connection to
the EtherNet/IP controller is established.
Register the EDS file
For the mapping of the device in an EtherNet/IP configuration software ifm provides an Electronic
Device Description (EDS). The device description file contains identification information, supported
parameters, process data and fieldbus objects. The user can download the EDS file from the website
documentation.ifm.com.
To add the device to the device catalogue of RSLogix 5000:
Requirements:
ü Download the EDS file of the device.
u Start the EtherNet/IP projection software "RSLogix 5000”.
u Select [Tools] > [EDS Hardware Installation Tool].
w The wizard starts.
u Register the downloaded EDS file using the wizard.
w The device is added to the device catalogue of the EtherNet/IP projection software.
w RSLogix 5000 can access functions and data of the device.
Adding a device to the project
The device is integrated into the project using the installed EDS file.
Requirements:
ü The EDS file is installed.
ü A project with Ethernet/IP controller and Ethernet communication module has been created.
u In the Controller Organizer: right-click on the node of the EtherNet/IP controller.
w The context menu appears.
