SNMP Overview
1. Protocol Definition
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is an application-layer protocol standardized by
the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) for managing and monitoring network
devices e.g.,routers,switches,servers.
Key Characteristics:
• Standardized: Defined in RFC 1157 v1, RFC 3416 v2c, RFC 3410 v3
• Lightweight: Minimal resource consumption on managed devices
• Hierarchical Data Model: Uses OID (Object Identifier) trees to organize data
