Hardware conguration
Congure the HELIX AMPLIFY 204 X-OVER as
follows
Caution: Carrying out the following steps will
require special tools and technical knowledge. In
order to avoid connection mistakes and / or dam-
age, ask your dealer for assistance if you have any
questions and follow all instructions in this manual
(see page 13). It is recommended that this unit will
be installed by an authorized HELIX dealer.
For better access to the connectors and control
units, we recommend to remove the amplier’s
cover panels, as shown on page 15, g. 2.
1. Adjusting the input voltage range
The amplier can be operated with either
lowlevel (RCA / Cinch) or highlevel (speaker
wires) signals from the preconnected device.
To ensure optimal signal quality, set the input
voltage range using the input type pushbutton
(page 14, point 7) according to the type of sig-
nal being used.
RCA: Select this setting when connecting the
amplier with Cinch / RCA cables (lowlevel
signals) from the preconnected device. The
input voltage range in this mode is 1 to 8 Volts.
High: Choose this setting if you are using
highlevel signals. This is necessary when the
preconnected device does not have Cinch /
RCA outputs, such as factory car radios or
OEM headunits. In this mode, the signal is
transmitted via the speaker wires, and the in-
put voltage range is 2 to 16 Volts.
2. Adjusting the input mode
Use the input mode switch (page 14, point 6)
to determine how the input signals are routed
to the respective amplier channels.
4CH (4-channel mode): If the head unit / car
radio provides two stereo outputs (front left /
right, rear left / right), all four signal inputs of
the amplier are supplied with the correspond-
ing output signals of the head unit / car radio.
2CH (2-channel mode): If the head unit / car
radio only provides one stereo output, all am-
plier channels are supplied with this signal.
This means, that only the signal inputs of
the channels A and B need to be connected.
In this mode the input signal of channel A is
routed to channel C and channel B is routed
to channel D. Please consider that the fader
and balance control of the head unit have the
same eect on channels A and C and respec-
tively B and D.
3. Connecting the signal inputs (high- or low-
level)
The signal inputs of the amplier (Inputs -
channel A/B and Inputs - channel C/D;
page 14, point 1) can be connected to the
signal source using the supplied connection
cables (page 15, g. 1, point 1.1). It is not
mandatory to use all inputs. If only two chan-
nels will be connected we recommend to use
the channels A and B and set the input mode
switch (page 16, point 2) to “2CH”. When all
channels will be used please choose switch
position “4CH”. Make sure that the polarity is
correct. If one or more connections have re-
versed polarity it may aect the performance
of the amplier. The input sensitivity of each
channel pair can be optimally adjusted to the
signal source using the respective gain control
(page 18, point 7).
a. Connecting pre-amplier / low level- /
Cinch/RCA signals
The Cinch / RCA outputs of the signal
source (e.g. radio / DSP / DSP amplier)
can be connected directly to the signal
inputs A/B or C/D using the supplied con-
nection cables (page 15, g. 1, point 1.1).
The automatic turn-on circuit does not work
when using the lowlevel signals. In this
case the remote input (REM) has to be con-
nected to activate the amplier.
b. Connecting highlevel signal (speaker
wires)
If your signal source (e.g., radio, DSP, or
DSP amplier) does not have RCA outputs,
you can connect the speaker outputs to the
amplier’s signal inputs. To do this, cut o
the Cinch / RCA connectors from the sup-
plied connection cables and use them as
adopters for the speaker wires.
Connect the signal source to the A/B and/or
C/D inputs of the amplier using the modi-
