Page EN-18 The hob
The best thing to use is cookware for elec-
tric hobs
– with a completely flat bottom, if neces-
sary with a slight bulge on the inside
(the base expands when heated). This
allows heat to be transferred more ef-
fectively and more quickly.
– with a sufficient base thickness such as
enamelled steel pots with 2-3 mm and
stainless steel pots with 4-6 mm, identi-
fied by the marking "base thickness ac-
cording to DIN 44904".
– of a size that corresponds to the size of
the cooking zones.

The diameter d1 is always given as the
size of the pot or pan. Base diameter d2 is
always around 2cm smaller. Pots that are
too big can damage paintwork.
Also very suitable are
– energy- and time-saving steam pressure
cookers. The relatively high purchase
costs are quickly recouped.
– steel pots and pans and coated and un-
coated aluminium dishes with a strong
base. However, coated cookware may
not be overheated or scratched.
You should not use:
– Indented or battered pans.
– Pans with a rough base.
– Pans with a curved base.
– Coated cookware that is scratched in-
side.
Cooking zones + temperature
controller
The hob has four cooking zones. Each
cooking zone has its own temperature con-
troller.
– Turn the temperature controller (5), (6),
(15), (16) to the desired temperature as
required :
from gentle simmering to rapid bubbling.
The heat settings (0 - 6) can be seen on
the temperature controller.
– Turn the temperature controller to level
‘0’ to switch off the solid plate.
Hob control light
The hob control light (7) lights up as soon
as at least one cooking zone has been
switched on. It only turns off when all cook-
ing zones have been switched off and
cooled.
Tips for saving energy and for
cooking
– To sear and parboil food, always select
the highest setting.
– As soon as the contents of the pot have
started to cook and steam is forming or
the steak is brown on both sides, you
can turn the heat down to a lower set-
ting.
– Roasts weighing more than 1 kilogram
are best cooked in the oven.
– Use the right dishes and a little water/oil
to cook; this helps to preserve the vitam-
ins.
– Use the residual heat of the cooking
zones. The heat is sufficient enough for
5 to 10 minutes, e.g. for soaking rice.
