14. To request notification of delivery from the LES, turn on
[Delivery Confirmation]. If not necessary, turn off [Delivery
Confirmation] (tap, or space bar for keyboard).
15. Tap [Immediate] or [Deferred] in [Delivery Timing]
(keyboard: select [Immediate] or [Deferred] using the
arrow keys).
16. Tap [Transmit] (keyboard: Enter key).
17. The confirmation message "Start transmission. Are you
sure?" appears. Tap [OK] (keyboard: Enter key) to send
the message to the message queue.
18. Tap [Dashboard] on the left side of the screen (keyboard:
F1 key) to return to the [Dashboard] screen.
[SENDING] appears in [Current Status] while the message
is being sent. If the message was sent successfully,
"Completed." appears and the TX message is printed (if
[Delivery Confirmation] is turned off).
1. Tap [Message] on the left side of the screen (keyboard:
F2 key) to open the message screen.
2. Tap the [Sent] tab (keyboard: press the Tab key while
pressing and holding the Ctrl key to select the [Sent] tab).
3. Tap the message to cancel and to put a check mark in the
box (keyboard: select the message using the arrow keys
→ press the space bar to put a check mark), then tap
[Details] (keyboard: Enter key) to open the [Message
Details] window.
4. Tap [Option] at the bottom left corner of the window
(keyboard: Alt + O key) to open the [Message Option]
window.
5. Tap [Cancel Sending] (keyboard: Alt + C key).
6. The confirmation message appears. Tap [OK] (keyboard:
Enter key).

How to send the distress alert
When a life-endangering situation arises on your vessel,
do the following to send the distress alert to LES.
1. If you have time to spare, do steps 1) to 12) below to set
your ship data and the nature of distress. If not, go to
step 2.
1） Tap [Distress] (keyboard: F5 key) to open the
[Distress Settings] screen.
2) Tap ▼ of [LES] (keyboard: space bar) to open the
[Select LES] window.
3) Tap the LES to call when your ship is in distress (key-
board: select the LES using the arrow keys), then tap
[OK] (keyboard: Enter key).
4) Tap ▼ of [Nature] (keyboard: space bar) to open the
[Select Nature] window.
5) Tap the nature of distress (keyboard: select the nature
of distress using the arrow keys), then tap [OK] (key-
board: Enter key). When manually inputting the latitude,
longitude, time of position, COG, and SOG, go to the
next step.
6) Tap [Manual Input] at the bottom left corner of the
screen (keyboard Alt + M key). The countdown
indication appears for three minutes.
7) Enter the latitude of your current position in [LAT].
Tap [N] or [S] for appropriate coordinate (keyboard:
space bar).
8) Enter the longitude of your current position in [LON].
Tap [E] or [W] for appropriate coordinate (keyboard:
space bar).
9) Enter the current time in [Time of Position (UTC)].
10) Enter your course in [COG].
11) Enter your speed in [SOG].
12) Tap [Apply] at the bottom right corner of the screen
(keyboard: Enter key).
2. Open the cover of the DISTRESS button on the Terminal
Unit IC-220, or the Distress Alert/Received Call Unit
IC-305.
3. Press and hold the DISTRESS button (approx. four
seconds) until the lamp in the button lights continuously.
While pressing the button, an audio alarm sounds and the
message "Distress Button Pressed" (black characters
on red background) appears on the screen. When the
distress alert is sent, the audio alarm stops and the lamp
in the button lights continuously. The message "Distress
Alert Activated" (black characters on red background)
appears on the screen while the distress alert is being
sent. The status is "SENDING DISTRESS ALERT". Wait
for acknowledgment of distress from the LES, which takes
from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. When you receive
acknowledgment of the distress alert from the LES, the
status changes to "DISTRESS ACK RECEIVED". To
silence the audio alarm, press the SILENCE key on the
terminal unit, the F10 key on the keyboard, or tap [Close]
(keyboard: Esc key) on the pop-up message window.
