• As a general rule, containers made out of ceramic, glass and heat-resistant plastic are
suitable for microwave cooking. Check that the container bears the indication “Suitable for
microwave oven use”.
• It is recommended that the food be covered by a steam cover or plastic wrap.
• Never use metal containers / trays / racks, aluminium foil, recycled paper products (they
may contain metal fragments) or kitchenware with metallic designs in the microwave oven,
and never leave a metal utensil inside the appliance. Only use microwave-safe containers.
For short cooking times, plastic or cardboard containers may be used, as well as frozen dishes
under plastic films, provided that these films have been pierced with a fork beforehand to
allow steam to escape. Do not use metal, cast iron or earthenware dishes with even minimal
metal parts (including silver or gold).
Heat from food can be transmitted to the cooking vessel and the latter can become
hot. Use insulating gloves to handle containers when they leave the microwave oven.
It is advisable to cover food with a steam cover or plastic film to:
– prevent excessive evaporation (mainly during very long cooking times),
– reduce cooking times,
– do not dry food,
– preserve the flavour.
The steam cover must have small openings and the plastic films must be pierced with a few
holes to prevent the pressure from building up.
