EXP. MODE BUTTON & LEDS
Located between the RESET and PLAY FSWs, the EXP. MODE button chooses the destination
parameter for an external expression pedal or control-voltage to modulate. The lit LED
indicates the selected mode. Each time you push and release the EXP. MODE button it cycles
through the four modes printed on the 8-STEP. To enter External CV Clock mode, press and
hold the EXP. MODE button until you see all four LEDs light up, this button hold is
approximately 3 seconds. Once all LEDs are lit, release the button, the 8-STEP remains in
External CV Clock mode. To exit External CV Clock mode, press and release the EXP. MODE
button once.
Please Note:
In the following table, the expression pedal’s heel position relates
to 0V from the CV source, the expression pedal’s toe position relates to 5V from the CV
source.

PRESET LOADED INDICATION:
When a preset is loaded in the 8-STEP, the decimal next
to the digit in the display lights up solid. If you load a preset and then change a parameter,
for example move one of the Step sliders, the decimal LED blinks to indicate that a preset is
loaded but one or more parameters have changed since loading the preset. If you move the
parameter back to the same setting as in the preset, the decimal LED stops blinking.
SAVING A PRESET:
To save a preset on the 8-STEP, first make sure you are in PRESETS
mode. Then turn the MODE knob to the preset number you want to save in. Now press and
hold the MODE knob for approximately 1.5 seconds, until you see the three MODE LEDs and
the digit blink, indicating that the preset is saving. After you see the LEDs blink you can
release the MODE knob.
SAVING AN EDITED PRESET:
Once you load a preset, if you decide to edit it you can then
save it to a new preset location. For example, load Preset 1. Now change the position of the
RATE slider, you should see the decimal LED blinking. Turn the MODE knob to a different
preset number, say Preset 2. Now you should see both the decimal and the digit blinking.
Press and hold the MODE knob for than 1.5 seconds, once you see the three MODE LEDs
blink, the preset is being saved in the new location and you can release the MODE knob.
EXITING PRESETS MODE:
To exit PRESETS mode, turn the MODE knob clockwise until
you see an
E
displayed on the digit. The
E
appears after Preset 9. Once the
E
is displayed,
press and release the MODE knob to exit PRESETS mode; the 8-STEP will take you back to
the last mode you were in. If you loaded a preset before exiting, the preset remains loaded
after you exit.
PLAY FOOTSWITCH & LED
The main function of the PLAY FSW is to start and stop the sequencer. Press and release
PLAY to toggle between sequence playback and stop. If a sequence is stopped, when you
press PLAY, it will start the sequence immediately, from whatever step you were on. For
example if the sequence is paused on Step 4, when you press the PLAY FSW, the sequence
starts with Step 4. If the sequence is playing, when you press the PLAY FSW, the sequence
will stop on whatever step was active at the time of pressing PLAY. If you want to begin the
sequence with Step 1, press the RESET FSW before pressing PLAY.
The green PLAY LED, located above the PLAY FSW, lights up when the sequence is playing
back and turns off when the sequence is stopped.
CHANGING PLAY MODES:
The secondary function of the PLAY FSW is to change the 8-
STEPs Play mode. There are three available modes: LOOP, 1-SHOT and STEP-THRU. See
below for more information on each Play mode. To change the Play mode, press and hold
the PLAY FSW until you see the LED display blink the newly entered mode digit, you will
need to hold for approximately 3 seconds. For LOOP mode it blinks an
L
, for 1-SHOT it blinks
