Managing LLDP-MED (Starting with version 2.1)

Feature Overview

Starting with version 2.1, the Media Endpoint Discovery extension has been added to the LLDP protocol,

which provides the following facilities:

l

Discovery of network policies – allows the network administrator to set automatically-discoverable

policies for phones, video streaming, and video conferencing devices. A policy consists of a VLAN

ID, a DSCP code point, and a dot1p priority for the end device to use.

l

Location discovery – support for Emergency Location Identification Number (ELIN).

l

Extended Power- over - Ethernet management.

l

Inventory management – for better tracking of deployed network devices.

l

ANSI/TIA-1057 - Telecommunications IP Telephony Infrastructure Link Layer Discovery Protocol

for Media Endpoint Devices.

Scaling Numbers

l

A maximum number of 256 neighbors are supported.

Limitations

l

For the location TLV, only the “ELIN Location” subtype is supported.
